1800 athletes have registered and thus ensure a great start of the latest IRONMAN 70.3 race in Europe. Executive Manager Stefan Petschnig says this is a “result of a good partnership between the Region and the World Triathlon Corporation.” Already with its first edition of the IRONMAN 70.3, Zell am See-Kaprun writes history: The triathlon half Ironman distance (1.9 kilometer swim, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km of running) is sold out up to the last place: on 26 August 2012, 1800 athletes from all over the world will stand at the start line.
For Zell triathlon, it is a huge success for the premiere race of the 70.3 series. “We are thrilled with how well the race has been accepted by the athletes. Of course, the race course and choice of dates play a role, but it is a great trust of the athletes for the good partnership between the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and the region of Zell am See-Kaprun, which will be a perfect host, “says Stefan Petschnig, Executive Manager, Europe & South Africa of the World Triathlon Corporation.
Enthusiastic organiser Werner Dannhauser adds: “We have two years of preparation behind us now, the race is within reach and we are pleased to join the athletes from around the world in a successful premiere.”
“The rush of the athlete proves the attractiveness of our region. The TV images of the Ironman 70.3 in Zell am See-Kaprun, Bruck, Maishofen and Piesendorf will go through the partnership with the World Trade Center around the world and show how harmoniously the races in the beautiful countryside between Lake Zell and the mountains fits, “George Segl, chairman of the Tourism Association Zell am See says.
Besides the main race, the 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun hosts 2 other events as well: Iron Kids (for children between 8 and 15 years) and Iron Girl (women) 25 August 2012, the day before the Ironman 70.3 in Zell am See-Kaprun.
