After the preliminary rejection from the Environmental Senate to the Hochsonnberg lift project, Schmittenhöhe (Pinzgau) is now considering a further expansion of its ski possibility to the neighboring Glemmtal with well known ski resort Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
The federal Environmental Senate had rejected the new access to the Schmittenhöhe the Hochsonnberg at Piesendorf in June. The final decision in this 70-million-euro project with lifts, slopes and snow will be made by the Administrative Court but it might take some years.
Hence Schmittenhöhe thinks about an alternative: there is a possibility of connection from Zell am See to the Glemmtal through the old piste to Viehhofen. The first step would be to open this old slope that existed between 1930s until the 1980s for off-piste skiers and freeriders .
