November skiing guide: Where to ski near Niedernsill

This year’s winter has started really early and we have seen a lot of snow fall already in the first half of November. For real ski and snowboard lovers, here is a quick overview of where to ski RIGHT NOW:

Kaprun – Kitzsteinhorn

The glacier must be mentioned, of course. Usually in November, there is only snow on the top part of it. This year, however, for almost the whole month of November, it is possible to ski down to Langwied and that is rather exceptional! Currently, all the Kitz lifts are open and the snow conditions are great. Beware: the rumor spreads quickly and the number of skiers is increasing every day.

Zell am See – Schmittenhohe

After a few really poor season starts, Schmitten now rocks! Today we took the trassXpress cable car up to 2000 m and enjoyed a perfect skiing day: sun, snow and virtually NO PEOPLE! Breiteck is open as well as Hirschkogel. On the north side, Kapelle and Ketting chair lifts are operating too. The black Ketting piste was excellent today!

KitzSki – Pass Thurn

When staying in Niedernsill, you have the advantage of choosing among several ski areas. One underestimated choice is Pass Thurn (part of Kitzbuhel Alps). Try to drive to Hollersbach, take the Panoramabahn and check Resterhohe. Currently only two slopes are open there but this weekend the rest will follow. No people and superb views over the Hohe Tauern mountain peaks.
